Description
Phool batti is the wick most homes reach for every morning. Each one is a small round base of soft cotton with a firmly twisted tip, so it stands upright in a diya and draws ghee or oil evenly up to the flame.
We roll ours from cleaned, carded cotton with no synthetic fibre mixed in. The base is dense enough to stay put when you pour ghee over it, and the tip is twisted tight so the flame stays small and steady instead of flaring.
In a small brass or clay diya with a spoon of ghee, one wick usually burns for about half an hour, which covers a morning or evening aarti. Wicks come in a sealed pouch that keeps them dry and clean until you need them.
How to use
- Place the wick in the centre of the diya with the tip pointing up.
- Pour ghee or oil over the base and let it soak for a minute.
- Light the tip. If the flame is too tall, press the tip down slightly.
- Never leave a lit diya unattended or near curtains.

How long does a 200-wick pack last?
If you light one diya morning and evening, 200 wicks last a little over three months. Families who light two or three diyas a day usually pick the 500 or 1,000 pack.
Can I use these with oil instead of ghee?
Yes. They work with ghee, til oil and mustard oil. With thinner oils, keep the tip a little shorter so the flame doesn't smoke.
