Which wick for which lamp?
Every lamp needs a different wick. Here is the short version; our wick guide explains more.
For clay diyas and the aarti thali
Phool batti
A flat base that sits upright and a short twisted tip for a small, steady flame.
For brass deepaks and deep oil lamps
Lambi batti
Long enough to nudge forward as it burns, so the lamp stays lit for hours.
For samai and kuthuvilakku
Twisted lamp wicks
Slim and tightly twisted to sit neatly in narrow spouts.
For the Navratri akhand jyoti
Akhand jyot wicks
A thick rope of cotton that coils in large diyas and burns through the night.
Navratri, Diwali and every day in between
Ready packs for the days you light more lamps than usual: an akhand jyot kit for the nine nights, 1,300 wicks for Diwali, a monthly pooja box and bulk packs for temples.

What happens before a wick reaches your pooja thali.
Choosing the cotton
We start with clean, long-fibre cotton. Short, dusty fibre makes a wick that splutters and smokes.
Cleaning and carding
Seeds, dust and leaf bits are removed, and the fibres are combed open so they roll evenly.
Rolling and twisting
Each wick is rolled and twisted to the same size, so every diya in a row burns for about as long.
Checking and packing
Packs are counted, checked for loose or uneven pieces and sealed before they leave us.
A note from Jagruti
Every home we know starts the day the same way: a diya, a spoon of ghee and a cotton wick. We started Navratri Wicks because buying good wicks was harder than it should be. Too many packs were loose, dusty or mixed with synthetic fibre that melts instead of burning.
So we keep it simple. Clean cotton, rolled and twisted properly, counted honestly and packed so it reaches you dry, at a fair price. If anything we send isn't right, write to us and we will make it right.
